Two Police Officers Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Two police officers were injured in a traffic accident along the George Price Highway on Sunday.

San Ignacio police responded to the scene between miles 68 and 69, where they discovered Police Constable Karen August lying in a ditch with visible injuries, including wounds to her forehead and hands and a deep cut to her left leg. Nearby, officers also found a red Lifan motorcycle with significant damage to its front portion.

Also at the scene was Police Constable Kurlyn Hamilton, who suffered abrasions to both elbows and the left side of his face and cuts to his head and arm.

Initial investigations revealed that earlier that morning, around 12:40 a.m., Hamilton had been driving the motorcycle with August as a passenger, travelling from San Ignacio toward Benque Viejo Town. While between miles 68 and 69, another vehicle reportedly swerved into their lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Hamilton steered to the far right, but the vehicle struck the motorcycle’s front protection bar, causing both officers to lose control. August and the motorcycle were thrown into the ditch, while Hamilton was injured on the roadway.

Both officers were transported by BERT Ambulance to the San Ignacio Community Hospital, where they received medical treatment.
