UDP Leadership Race Heats Up Ahead of Convention

The race for leadership is heating up inside the United Democratic Party. With the big convention set for November thirtieth, the clock is ticking, and tensions are still simmering after a major split earlier this year between Party Leader Moses “Shyne” Barrow and Opposition Leader Tracy Taegar-Panton. Now, with just days left to apply for executive posts and the convention just around the corner, we asked Tracy Taegar-Panton: Is the UDP ready to unite? Here’s what she had to say.

Tracy Taegar-Panton, Leader of the Opposition

“I am very encouraged  the November thirtieth convention for the United Democratic Party is coined as our grand reset. We will be electing or endorsing a new leadership executive for the party for the next two years. It really helps to lay out the way forward for the uniting and rebuilding of the UDP as we prepare for both the municipal elections in 2027 and the general elections that is scheduled now for 2030. It’s been an arduous road. But I am very encouraged by the support that I have been receiving from the delegates of this party who ultimately are the decision makers for the United Democratic Party.”

“So do we feel that in the time leading up to November thirtieth, we’ve been able to stitch back together some of the people that were divided so that we can have the utmost support at the upcoming convention?”

Tracy Taegar-Panton

“I think everybody in the UDP is ready for a united front. We recognize that. We have to be a robust opposition. What is happening in this country? Some of the decisions that are being taken by the present administration is completely unacceptable. And we have to join forces to ensure that we can defend our democracy and protect our sovereignty.”
