UDP Questions ‘Yellowman’ Detention as Politically Motivated
The United Democratic Party escalated its criticism of the Belize Police Department during today’s press conference for the temporary detention of Brian “Yellowman” Audinett last Wednesday.
Authorities have since offered conflicting explanations for his detention, with reports suggesting Audinett was held either for allegedly being a member of a gang or for plans to incite violence.
UDP Senator Sheena Pitts questioned both claims. She argued the arrest was politically motivated. “Yellowman is a political affiliate. He belong to the same party I belong. What did the police department suggest by doing that?” Pitts said.
Audinett’s detention triggered the blocking of the Belcan Bridge by UDP supporters. Protesters marched their way from in front of the Social Security Board’s building to the bridge in a renewed protest for his release.
A move that Commissioner of Police Dr Richard Rosado said “violated the agreed-upon conditions of the bond to protest,” adding that “there may be legal consequences for the organisers.”
Audinett was released by midday on Wednesday and has since threatened legal action against the police department.
