UK officials visited communities in Guatemala and Belize to see firsthand how local people are protecting forests and building climate-resilient livelihoods. The visit, from October 11 to 22, included field trips to farms, monitoring sites, and forest restoration projects, as well as meetings with community leaders and implementing partners.

In Belize, officials visited community forest management projects and cross-border conservation efforts in the Maya Forest. The Friends for Conservation and Development said that the team “travelled to the Vaca Forest Reserve to visit a beneficiary; the representatives got a first-hand look at the climate-resilient efforts being supported by Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF)

The delegation also visited Guatemala’s Maya Biosphere Reserve in Petén. The team stopped at communities including Paso Caballos, Uaxactún and the Forest Concession of Árbol Verde. Their programme involved forest restoration, biodiversity monitoring, and water resource management initiatives.

The Biodiverse Landscapes Fund works to reduce poverty, protect biodiversity, and mitigate climate change in six critical landscapes worldwide. Close collaboration with local authorities and communities helps ensure that projects meet local needs and deliver lasting impact.
