UN, Belize Strengthen Sustainable Development Goals
For years, the UN has been working alongside Belize to push forward sustainable development in key areas like education, healthcare, gender equality, and social protection. Earlier this month, that collaboration took another step forward. Belizean officials sat down with UN representatives to talk about how to strengthen the government’s Plan Belize 2.0, a refreshed roadmap for national development. The meeting also gave the ministry a chance to share its new strategic vision, one that’s all about deepening partnerships and driving progress on the country’s top priorities. Carlos Pol, CEO in the Ministry of Economic Transformation, was part of those discussions and he broke down what it all means for Belize.

“As the Ministry of Economic Transformation, we have our mandate of the multilateral development banks. UN is not a bank, but it’s a partner to the ministry. So we had the honor of having the visit of Mr. Raul Salazar, the resident representative from the UN, and again we touch on a number of topics with them and on that one was the plan Belize medium term development strategy that is coming to an end. We have a medium term development strategy 2022 to 2026. So we are in the process of developing a new strategy and they have been a key partner in us developing the strategy and ensuring that we implement it because they provide support to the country via the different UN arms that they have and via technical cooperation as well.”
