Uncle of Corozal Mayor Shot Dead Outside Home

Our next story tonight takes us to Corozal Town, where residents are in shock after the brutal killing of a well-known community member. Arnaldo “Colo” Vellos was gunned down outside his home in the Finca Solana area early this morning. Reports say he had just stepped out to get into his vehicle when he turned back for something he forgot, and that’s when two men allegedly ambushed him and fired the fatal shot. Vellos, who is the uncle of Corozal’s Mayor Rigoberto Vellos, leaves behind a grieving family and a community searching for answers. Police are investigating, and tonight we hear from one of his closest friends about the moment he got the heartbreaking news.

“I knew Mr. Vellos from years aback. Twenty-five years aback because he is family with my wife and I mi used to hang with he a lot and do work with him. And when I heard that he mi separate with his wife, but he mi done have his property pan this way, which part I’m here right now talking. And this morning I heard they made me a call that Mr. Vellos was shot this morning, I come see if it was true and his common-law-wife tell me yes and show me weh part he get shot. That’s all she have already told me. I don’t know who’s the guys that were waiting for him because Mr. Vellos da wa honest man, he da wa very cool guy. I know how he stand, he noh drink, he noh smoke. I no know if he mi have something against somebody Fi mek he get like that. so that’s all that I can say for you right now. I will investigate more or less to see what’s going on.”
