US–Iran Tensions Flare as Fighting Resumes in Strait of Hormuz

A fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran is under strain after both sides exchanged fire in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh concerns about regional stability and global energy supplies.

According to CNN, the US military said it destroyed six Iranian boats after Tehran launched cruise missiles, drones, and small craft toward American naval vessels and commercial ships in the waterway. US Central Command described the response as defensive, aimed at protecting maritime traffic, while Iran rejected US claims about the incident as “baseless.”

The renewed hostilities have already rattled global markets, with oil prices climbing and stocks slipping amid fears that the vital shipping route could be disrupted. Analysts warn fuel prices could surge significantly if the strait remains unsafe for transit.

Tensions are also spilling beyond the Gulf. In the United Arab Emirates, authorities reported missile interceptions and a drone strike that injured three people at an oil facility, while multiple vessels were damaged in nearby waters. Meanwhile, an Israeli air defense system deployed in the UAE intercepted an incoming Iranian missile, underscoring growing regional cooperation.

The broader conflict continues to simmer, with clashes also reported between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon, despite an already fragile ceasefire.

Military officials say it remains unclear whether the US-Iran ceasefire will hold, as both sides signal readiness to respond to further aggression.
