Vandals Deface Mary Hill R.C. School in Corozal
The community of Mary Hill R.C. School in Corozal woke up to disappointment and heartbreak after vandals defaced the school’s recently painted buildings overnight.
In a statement posted on social media, the school wrote, “Today is a very sad day for MHRCS and our community. Today, we realize that we live in a society that has lost its core values of respect, empathy, integrity and love.”
Photos shared online show obscene graffiti on the school’s walls. The administration apologized for the offensive images, saying, “Apologies for the obscenity in the images.”
The school noted that it had recently completed painting its buildings and had taken pride in the achievement. “We recently painted our buildings and we were so proud of this accomplishment. Somehow, we still have people within our society that will spread hate and evil doings and took time to just destroy what was done to improve our school,” the post continued.
Despite the damage, the administration emphasized strength and faith in the face of adversity. “We remain steadfast and resilient and we will not crumble because of hate and evil doings. We are a school that is strong in Faith and we believe that God’s blessings and protection is far greater than any wickedness,” the message stated.
The school confirmed that the incident has been reported to the police and appealed for the community’s help in identifying those responsible. “We already reported it to the authorities and we are pleading to our community, if you know who is/are the culprit(s), to kindly let us or the police know,” the school said, ending with a message of hope: “May God bless us all.”
