Venezuela Seeks Stronger Trade Ties With Belize
Venezuela’s Ambassador to Belize, Gerardo Argote, sat down with a group of Belizean ministers this week to brief them on current conditions in Venezuela and explore ways to deepen ties between the two countries.
Embassy officials say discussions covered recent improvements in Venezuela’s economy and growth plans tied largely to the oil sector. Ministers from the portfolios of Agriculture, Education, Energy, and Economic Development were among those present.
Ambassador Argote also spoke about foreign investment deals already signed and invited the ministers to consider expanding bilateral trade with Venezuela.
The Embassy described the meeting as “positive,” saying it gave Belizean leaders a clearer picture of Venezuela’s current reality while opening doors for deeper political ties.
The meeting comes several months after a dramatic shift in Venezuela’s leadership. On January 3, 2026, U.S. forces captured President Nicolás Maduro in the capital city during a military operation.
Since then, Delcy Rodríguez has assumed the role of acting president, guiding Venezuela through a period of political uncertainty while continuing to court foreign investment and regional partnerships.
