Veteran Sportscaster Rubén Morales Dies at 65

Veteran sportscaster and educator Rubén Morales Iglesias passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of sixty-five. Morales died at 4:30 p.m. after being taken off life support, one week after suffering a stroke that left him in a coma.

Morales’ daughter, Dr Lesly N. Brodhurst, confirmed his death in a social media post, stating that her father “transitioned peacefully and painlessly” on March sixteenth, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. She thanked the public for their prayers and support and said funeral arrangements will be shared once finalised.

Morales devoted decades to sports journalism in Belize. He began his broadcasting career at the Broadcasting Corporation of Belize before moving on to LOVE FM and later joining Breaking Belize News in March 2021, where he continued covering local and international sports.

Chairman and CEO of Breaking Belize News, Hugh O’Brien, reflected on Morales’ impact, saying he admired his love for sports from his early football days and immediately thought of him when BBN launched its online sports reporting.

The National Sports Council of Belize also paid tribute, describing Morales as a pillar of sports journalism whose voice became synonymous with Belizean sport. The Council said his storytelling inspired generations of athletes and helped elevate sports nationwide.

Rubén Morales was born on November fifth, 1960.
