Village Council Warns Over Dumping Problem

The San Felipe Village Council is sounding the alarm over ongoing illegal dumping at the village entrance and surrounding areas, warning that the behavior is damaging the community’s long-standing reputation for cleanliness and hospitality.

The council said San Felipe is widely known for the warmth and pride of its people, but discarded garbage at key entry points tells a very different story. “When trash is seen at the entrance of the village, no one blames an individual,” the council noted. “The entire community is labeled as dirty, and that affects us all.”

Despite repeated clean-up efforts, including the use of heavy machinery just two months ago, the problem persists, particularly along the Orange Walk–San Felipe road. The council reminded residents that clearly posted signs warn that littering and illegal dumping can result in fines, even though authorities have often opted for patience and understanding.

The council also expressed concern over litter left behind at the central park, especially after young people gather there. Residents are being urged to use garbage bins and take responsibility for keeping public spaces clean.

The council is encouraging residents to document illegal dumping by taking photos or videos, which can be used as evidence for enforcement.
