Visa Services Continue, Amid U.S. Shutdown

If you were planning on scheduling a U.S. visa appointment soon, you may need to hold on those plans. This morning, U.S. agencies around the world announced they’re going quiet, after the U.S. federal government shutdown at midnight on Tuesday. It kicked off after lawmakers in the Senate failed to pass a short-term funding bill, and now, the ripple effects are being felt globally.  So, what does this mean for Belize? Well, it could mean delays in services and uncertainty for those working at U.S. agencies here. The U.S. Embassy in Belize took to social media to share that while passport and visa transit services will continue for now, it all depends on how the situation unfolds. In the meantime, the embassy’s social media accounts will go dark, except for urgent safety and security updates. If you’ve got travel plans or paperwork in the pipeline, stay tuned, but be prepared for possible disruptions.
