Wagiya Boss Nelson Moss Faces Scrutiny Over Player Allegations

So, who exactly is Nelson Moss? Well, if you follow football in Belize, especially in Dangriga, the name probably rings a bell. Moss is both the manager and owner of Wagiya Football Club, one of the country’s oldest teams. He’s been at the helm for about twenty years, and his family name carries weight in Belize’s football scene. But late this afternoon, News Five caught up with Moss to ask him directly about the serious allegations being made by foreign players, claims involving passports and troubling living conditions.

“I was there with the whole process to show I was intimately involved with these players and had a good vibe with them. This is, I am not trying to use these players in no way shape or form.”

Paul Lopez

“Did you at any time commit to getting them regularized in Belize, in terms of getting their workers visa?”

Nelson Moss

“I just explained we had the money with the issue for the extension and that should have come form the agent. That is what I was waiting for. As you know we are a club strapped for cash. We don’t have that kind of money. I realize the one month was exceeding and it was a violation.”

Paul Lopez

“What was your response to request for travel documents? Was it not that you are still working on getting the work permits?”

Nelson Moss

“I told them I was trying to get the permits, but as Mr. Jones said and the federation said, the work permits are challenging, so that was aborted so then we went into the phase of getting their extension.”

Paul Lopez

“As I understand, weeks past and you never obtained their work permits, yet they continued for you, the continued to practice and play. How should this be interpreted?”

Nelson Moss

“It all falls under the tryout agreement we had with their agents. I was holding true that.”

Paul Lopez

“In one text message exchange one of the players inquired about a meal and you are seen telling the player that well unu nuh the perform well, the live it up over there, before agreeing to give them a meal.”

Nelson Moss

“I always run jokes with my players. I am not serious about that. I want my players perform and they will get their meal.  They came in had their stamps for the one month and started training. We go their accommodation, everything in place for them. Everything went well, training, playing couple matches. The one month expired, cause there was an issue with the scout who was to provide a money with all that and that money took a while to come. We had an issue there. By the time that money came it was time to take them to Belmopan. That is when the issue started.”
