Westline Wins E-Bus Contract Amid Transparency Concerns
Belize is officially on the road to cleaner, greener public transportation. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Transportation signed a landmark agreement with Westline Bus Company Limited, launching the country’s very first electric buses on our national highways. It’s a major victory for commuters and the environment, but not everyone’s on board just yet. Earlier this week, Thomas Shaw, President of the Belize Bus Owners Association, raised concerns about transparency in the contract process. He questioned why only one operator was selected to run the new e-bus system. In response, the Ministry clarified that Westline earned the highest marks in both technical and financial evaluations, and that’s why they were awarded the contract. Backed by the European Union and the UNDP, this initiative is part of Plan Belize’s push to modernize transportation and reduce our carbon footprint. Officials say it’s a major step toward a more connected, eco-friendly future for Belizeans.
