WFP Gives Agriculture Ministry a Vehicle for Tilapia Hatchery Work
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries has received a vehicle from the World Food Programme (WFP) for its Aquaculture Unit.
The donation is a 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero. It was handed over Wednesday at the Tilapia Hatchery Center at Central Farm.
The Aquaculture Unit runs the hatchery, which raises and distributes tilapia fingerlings. It also teaches schools and youth organisations about aquaculture.
Agriculture Minister Rodwell Ferguson said the Ministry is grateful for the support and that the vehicle will help its day-to-day work, especially at the hatchery.
WFP representative Tony Spence said the agency was glad to assist the unit. He pointed to its school visits and its efforts to teach young people about food security and said the WFP also wants to support the Ministry’s wider work.
