‘Where’s My Refund?’: Lions Club Raffle Drama Continues

Ticket holders arrived at the Belize City Civic Centre this morning expecting refunds from the failed Sub Umbra Floreo Lions Club 2026 Toyota Hilux raffle, only to find the booth empty.

A flier posted on the club’s Facebook page on March 31st had invited the approximately 500 ticket holders to collect their reimbursements at the Civic Centre ticket booth between 10:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. But when the doors were supposed to open, no Lions Club representative was present.

News Five, which has been investigating the failed raffle for several weeks, was on the ground as supporters arrived one by one, tickets in hand, to meet the same empty booth.

Carl Duncan, who travelled from Ladyville for the refund, said he was trying to stay hopeful despite the wait.

“I hope everything go through for everybody because it is a big letdown,” he said. “People have their trust in the organisation…I took a long journey up here. I came from Ladyville, but gas high right now. We know it is a reputable place, but we have our trust in them, and hopefully they don’t let us down.”

The club posted to social media around noon that “due to delays with the bank, refunds will be processed later today than originally scheduled.”

Representatives from the club eventually arrived after 2:00 p.m.
