Who Tore Down Calcutta’s Christmas Tree?
Tonight, there’s outrage in Calcutta Village after vandals struck in the early hours of the morning, targeting something meant to bring joy this season. The community’s Christmas tree, beautifully decorated with ornaments donated by residents, was torn down overnight. Witnesses say it was standing tall at three a.m., but less than an hour later, it was lying broken on the ground. Chairman Alex Tzub is condemning the act, pointing out that this comes amid a troubling rise in vandalism across the village. Authorities are now calling on anyone with information to come forward and help stop these crimes in what has always been a peaceful community.
On the Phone: Alex Tzub, Chairperson, Calcutta Village
“Part of the tree is broken. And many of the decorations on the Christmas tree has been burst and the lot of the ball decorations were thrown off the tree. So we are trying to put back everything together, what we could, if possible. But if not we’ll still put it up again. So it’s just a bad minded people in the village. Just before the Christmas ,there’s there have been many incidents that occurred and in this village especially in front of the community center where they stone vehicle windshields, vehicles glass doors and sorts of things. This vandalism has been happening a while, and we cannot catch them red-handed. So that is the problem. As I mentioned before, I would really want the villagers to try help us as village council to monitor these types of incident that occurred in village because it’s really, it really it make the village look bad. Not only the village council, but the village in our whole, that is what I would say to the village and to the villagers.”
