Wil Maheia Pressures PM to Address Sarstoon Incursions at UN
With Prime Minister John Briceño now attending the Eightieth Session of the United Nations General Assembly, BTV founder Wil Maheia says this is the moment to turn up the heat on Guatemala. Maheia believes the Prime Minister should use the world stage to call out Guatemala over the ongoing incursions in the Sarstoon River, and rally Belize’s international partners to send a strong, united message: enough is enough.
Wil Maheia, Leader, Belize Territorial Volunteers
“I believe the prime minister should alert the world that Guatemala is disrespecting Belize’s sovereignty, they continue to violate our sovereignty and call on the world stage, all those nations that supported us for Independence in 1981 that gave us their support, the prime minister should call on them again to support us and be on the alert and at least speak with Guatemala, or the so called friends of Belize and Guatemala, speak with them and ask Guatemala to tone it down and stop with the disrespect of Belize’s sovereignty and disrespect of Belizean civilians. Because, innocent civilians were on that river on the thirteenth of September, the Guatemalan Armed Forces came over with full military gear. That in my opinion needs to be addressed.”
