Will Stricter Bail Stop Staine from Being a Hot Target?

Police are seeking to tighten bail conditions for 22-year-old Jahreem “32” Staine after Friday night’s shooting at a basketball court in the Lake Independence area left four men injured.

The men injured include Staine, 22-year-old Devon Parham, 27-year-old Anthony Reyes, and 27-year-old Tyrique Westby, confirmed Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith.

ASP Smith said surveillance footage shows a lone gunman emerging from behind bleachers before firing several shots at a group seated near the court.

“The surveillance camera and the footage are being meticulously scrutinised with a view to apprehending these assailants or this assailant,” Smith added.

Staine’s latest attempt on his life has raised concerns about public safety. Police are preparing an application before the High Court to seek stricter conditions.

“I know that the conditions of his bail included that he ought not to be in certain places around certain times,” Smith said. “Certainly that matter will be addressed, which I anticipate will be at the high court; it’ll certainly be for more stringent provisions to be placed.”
