Wilson Hernandez’s Brother Dissatisfied with Murder Charge
Tonight, the brother of Wilson Hernandez is speaking out, a week after Hernandez was shot and killed in Belmopan. Brian Matute says he is not pleased with the charge of manslaughter levied against Christy Guzman. And, while the court denied her bail on Monday, Matute says he believes she should have been charged with murder. As we reported, police say that Hernandez was engaged in a heated altercation with his common-law wife when she handed over her licensed firearm to her niece, Christy Guzman. Hernandez received a fatal gunshot injury. Here is what Brian Matute had to say.
On the Phone: Brian Matute, Brother of Deceased
“I am only going to say that he is a humble person, a respectful guy. He is not a traumatic person. It is not like I want to say anything in a way that will traumatize us, but we want justice to come to its ends. The charges are not, I wanted to make it be as murder, I am not in agreement with manslaughter, because you can get free out, you know. It is not right that it should be manslaughter, it should be murder because it is not like he is alive. He passed away already.”

“What is your interpretation of what that surveillance video shows?”
On the Phone: Brian Matute
“Well, the think it is that they had a conflict with each other, nothing aggressive or anything like that or in a violent way. It was just that he was approaching her to get his car keys. Nothing regardless of what people are saying.”
