Young Belizean Athletes Shine at CODICADER Games
Good evening, I am Paul Lopez with this week’s installment of Sports Monday brought to you by the National Sports Council. We begin tonight’s coverage with the exemplary performance of our young Belizean athletes at the CODICADER Games in Honduras.
Over the course of the last three days, these athletes have been racking up victoriously in various disciplines. Here are some of the reports coming out of the event. On Saturday, Belize’s football team defeated Guatemala three to one in football. Belize’s female football team also pulled off an exceptional performance, drawing with Guatemala one goal apiece.
In volleyball, both male and female teams also secured victorious against Guatemala. And to add the cherry on top of outstanding performances, today Belize’s female softball team sent Guatemala off the pitch in stunning fashion after dominating them with an impressive twenty-two runs. Better yet, they held Guatemala to zero runs. Belize continues to perform exceptionally well at the games, a testament to the strong future of sports in the country.
And from regional sports highlight we bring you back home where the Anthony Mahler Mundialito Football Tournament continues. This is another example of our future athletes being shaped into world-class athletes. In our first game highlight, we bring you the match between Yabra FC and Ebony Lake. In this one, Yabra FC was completely dominant, defeating Ebony Lake with three goals to zero. Number ten for Yabra FC, Kyrone Linares gets the man of the match award from Sports Monday, after scoring two of the three goals for his team in the span of four minutes. And in our second game highlight, we bring you the match between two of the strongest teams in the league, Belize United and Stars Academy. Belize United broke away in the first half of this one with three goals. But Stars Academy came back with a response late in the game and scored three goals to equalize the match. And that’s how this one ended folks. Jeffersons Martinez scored two goals for his team Belize United and Elcan Thomas did the same for his team Stars Academy.
And finally, for tonight, Belize will have representation at the GAMMA Pan American Championship in Colombia. The continental amateur mixed martial arts competition is organized by the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts. The tournament will run from September eight to the thirteenth. We wish team Belize success.
Well folks, that is all we have for you in tonight’s coverage of Sports Monday, proudly brought to you by the National Sports Council. Catch you in the next one.
