Young Man Charged with Murder
Twenty-four-year-old Belize City labourer Lennox Linford Gentle was formally arrested and charged with the June murder of 29-year-old Kiffer McKenzie.
McKenzie was gunned down in broad daylight on Albert Street in Belize City while his two young children sat inside the vehicle with him. According to police reports, the gunman approached McKenzie on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the area.
Despite being wounded, McKenzie attempted to drive away but crashed into a parked vehicle and later died from the injuries sustained. Scenes of crime officers recovered fingerprints and collected the motorcycle and helmet for forensic examination.
The brazen daylight shooting shocked Belize City and renewed conversations about violence affecting the McKenzie family. Although his father and brother were both victims of deadly violence years earlier, relatives described Kiffer as someone working to build a better life for himself and his children.
Gentle is now in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before the court.
