Young Man Murdered, Police Cite Ongoing Rivalry

Nineteen-year-old Anthony Perry was shot and killed Wednesday evening a couple hundred feet from his home in Port Loyola, Belize City, while walking to visit a relative.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says, “Information is that Perry was walking in the area when he was approached by a male person who fired several shots at him. We are seeking two suspects and reviewing video footage in the area.”

He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to Romero, the shooting stems from an ongoing rivalry involving individuals in the Louis Bevans area, and confirmed Perry had a criminal history and was known to police.

Perry’s girlfriend, Allyssa Teul, was nearby when the shooting occurred and rushed to his side. “By the time I come outside, his aunty ask me, dah Version down there? The only thing I could do was just run. I never expect to see him on the ground like that.”

Perry’s father, Anthony Perry Sr., says he learned of the shooting through a phone call from his other son. “I see three missed call, and before I even get back fuh grab my phone, my big son the call again. He said, daddy they just kill Version.”

Police continue searching for the two suspects and are reviewing video footage from the area as the investigation continues.
