Young Man Shot in Reggae Street Attack

While police celebrate a major drug bust in Lord’s Bank, gun violence has struck again, this time on Belize City’s southside. Just before eight p.m. Tuesday, gunfire erupted along Reggae Street. Police found twenty-five‑year‑old Shawn Nolberto shot and slumped inside a vehicle. Investigators say a masked gunman approached Nolberto and a companion, opened fire, and fled. Nolberto remains in critical but stable condition. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and intelligence leads as they search for the shooter. A person of interest has been identified, and investigators are probing possible links to ongoing gang tensions. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacy Smith has the latest on the case.

“Police are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Tuesday seventh April, 2026. Before 8:00 PM on Reggae Street in Belize City. Officers who were on patrol in the area were alerted to the sounds of shots being fired and they were advised by personnel at the police control room of the specific location. Upon their arrival, they observed an injured male person whose identity was later learned to be twenty-five-year-old Shawn Nolberto. The male person exhibited apparent gunshot injury and he was transported to the hospital where he now lies in a critical but stable condition.
