Long commutes, long queues, and long delays at Vital Statistics have been a normal part of the life of many Belizeans. That era has now come to an end, according to the Government.

Belizeans can now request birth, marriage, and death certificates online through the new Civil Registry and Vital Statistics System. The system was launched on Wednesday by the Ministry of E-Governance in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Ministry and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

“Today’s launch stands as a tribute to the dedication and perseverance and the valuable historical records that have been preserved across generations,” said the Deputy Registrar of the Vital Statistics Unit.

The platform allows citizens to apply for vital records from any device and verify electronic certificates. It also connects with the Ministry of Health and Wellness to improve data accuracy.

Attorney General Anthony Sylvester described this change as “a pivotal movement in the modernisation of service delivery in Belize”. He said, “With the implementation of the CRVS system, we are ushering in a transformative change. The CRVs introduce a fully digital, modernised and secure system that fundamentally improves how vital records are requested, processed and delivered. It replaces paper-driven in-person procedures with an efficient online platform accessible from any location, whether at home, at work or on a mobile device, and this transition represents a significant advancement in convenience, reliability and accessibility for all Belizeans.”

Prime Minister John Briceño praised the team behind the transformation for “tediously going through those pages after pages and trying to fit all this information [system] so that we could digitise it.”

The digital platform forms part of Belize’s current push to modernise public services. In May 2025, the government also launched the Online Criminal Records Registry (CRR), which enables Belizeans to apply, make payment, and receive their Police Records of Conduct document.
