75 Belizean Students Head to Taiwan Under 2026 Scholarship Programs
Seventy-five Belizean students are heading to Taiwan this year to pursue their studies, after receiving scholarships under the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and TaiwanICDF Scholarship programs.
The students departed in several groups over three days, with the Embassy of Taiwan in Belize on hand at the airport to see them off. Of the recipients, 35 received the MOFA Taiwan Scholarship and 40 received the TaiwanICDF Scholarship.
Ahead of their departure, the students were celebrated at the 2026 Taiwan Scholarship Orientation and Alumni Gathering in mid-August.
The gathering also brought together Taiwan alumni now working across healthcare, trade, culture, energy, diplomacy, and public service in Belize, who connected with this year’s recipients to share their own experiences studying and living in Taiwan. Alobi Young, President of the Belize Taiwan Alumni Society, and Ilona Smiling, Director of the Museum of Belize and Houses of Culture and Museum of Belizean Arts, both spoke as Taiwan alumni, while Ian Oliva, President of the Belize Taiwan Association, offered words of encouragement to the students ahead of their journey.
