Belize Strengthens Child-Centered Justice System
When children enter the justice system, the stakes are high, and Belize is now working to make sure the system responds with more care, compassion, and understanding. A two-day judicial training concluded in Belize City, having brought together judges and key justice sector stakeholders to focus on child-centered justice, trafficking in persons, restorative justice, and diversion. The training was led by the Ministry of Human Development, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Council, and the Child Justice Committee, with support from the Judicial Education Institute. Organizers say the goal is to help judicial officers better protect children and trafficking victims by using trauma-informed, victim-centered approaches that place a child’s safety and well-being at the heart of every decision.
