NTUCB Launching Documentary on Sixty Years of Advocacy

For six decades, the National Trade Union Congress of Belize has been at the forefront of the fight for workers’ rights, shaping labor policy and advocating for better conditions across the country. Now, as the organization marks its sixtieth anniversary, it is looking back on that history through a new documentary highlighting the defining moments, challenges and victories that have helped shape modern Belize. NTUCB President Ella Waight says the documentary premiere is both a celebration of the organization’s legacy and an opportunity to inspire a new generation of labor advocates.

“So sixty years of work will be celebrated on the 18th of July in Belize City at Inspiration Center. Now what we’ll be doing is that we have hired someone to do a documentary for us. It should encompass the sixty years of work. Of course, we have some time that we could not find records but we did our best to ensure that we encompass the major events that NTUCB took a part in and that and probably led certain events that became a part of history in this country. So it will be at the Inspiration Center at two p.m. to seven p.m. On the 25th of July, we’ll be doing the same thing in Dangriga at the UB Auditorium. Of course, that one will – we’re trying to invite persons in Dangriga and surrounding areas. That one begins at three p.m. the same concept. We’ll be launching, we’ll be screening our documentary and we have a lot of great interviews in the documentary. We have from former prime ministers. We have from former trade unionists. We have a lot of information. The documentary is supposed to be forty minutes but we’re finding out it’s going to be longer because we have so much information we’re trying to compact into one small- into one short frame. So we’re hoping that persons will want to hear about what the achievements were of NTUCB and want to support us through this initiative of our celebration of sixty years.”
