New Report Examines How Climate Change Is Affecting Belize’s Children

Climate change is not affecting everyone in Belize equally, and a new report is highlighting how children and vulnerable communities are facing some of the greatest risks.

The Government of Belize and UNICEF Belize have launched the Climate Landscape Analysis for Children Plus (CLAC+) Report. This is the first national assessment looking at how climate change, environmental challenges, energy issues, and disasters are impacting children and other vulnerable groups.

The report focuses on groups including children, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, and pregnant and lactating women.

Researchers say the assessment provides a clearer picture of the challenges these groups face, from climate-related disasters to disruptions in essential services such as health care, education, and social protection.

The findings are expected to help guide future policies and investments aimed at building stronger, more climate-resilient communities across Belize.

Officials say addressing climate change requires cooperation across all sectors, including government agencies, communities, schools, health providers, and environmental organisations.
