Belize City Tackles Bar Noise and Licensing Concerns at Public Meeting
If you live near a bar, run a business, or host events in Belize City, tonight’s consultation is aimed directly at you. The Belize City Council is asking residents, business owners and promoters to weigh in on proposed changes to the country’s liquor licensing laws. The discussion will cover concerns that often come up in neighborhoods, including noise, opening hours, license categories and enforcement. The meeting begins at 6:30 this evening at the House of Culture. Programs Manager Micheal Fritz says the council wants to hear from the people who deal with these issues firsthand.

“This evening’s consultation, it’s a liquor license review consultation. It’s a national process that’s happening under the wings of the Ministry of Local Government to actually hear from municipalities and residents about some of the reforms they would like to see when it comes to the standardization of the Liquor License Act and the way how liquor license are distributed and administered throughout the country. It’s an opportunity to have your opinions be heard, particularly if you’re a user of a liquor license or if you’re a resident in the vicinity of someone that might have a liquor license, a bar, a restaurant or something of that sort. It’s an opportunity to learn and also have your voices be heard.”
