Five-Year-Old Caught in Crossfire During San Ignacio Shooting

A five-year-old boy is recovering tonight after being struck by gunfire while walking home with his mother in San Ignacio Town. The child was caught in the crossfire during a shooting that also left thirty-year-old Carlton McKoy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say the incident occurred shortly after seven forty p.m. on Monday on Collins Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found McKoy lying on the ground with several gunshot injuries. Initial investigations reveal that McKoy had driven onto Collins Boulevard when occupants of a parked vehicle allegedly opened fire, sending multiple rounds toward his vehicle. One of those bullets struck the five-year-old student, who was walking along nearby Bullet Tree Road with his mother on their way home. Both victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment, with the child later being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City for further medical care. Both McKoy and the child are reported to be in stable condition, and a police investigation remains ongoing.
