$50 Ticket? No. A $50,000 Winning Ticket Ahead of GST-Free Weekend

A Punta Gorda resident is celebrating big with a $50,000 winning ticket just ahead of the GST-free weekend scheduled for August 15th and 29th. 

The woman said she initially thought it was a $50 win and put it aside. Only to realise later that the ticket was literally 1000x more than that. 

“I scratched one, and then I saw fifty. I thought it was fifty dollars, so I put it aside and scratched the other three,” she recalled. 

After winning twenty dollars on another ticket, she returned to the one she had set aside and realised she had overlooked several zeros.

“I was like, ‘Wow, I won fifty thousand dollars,’” she said. “I felt happy and excited, and I said, ‘I can’t believe it.’”

While she has not yet decided how she will spend the money, the winner said she plans to take some time before making any major decisions. 

The winning ticket was purchased at a store in Punta Gorda. She says that although she has been buying Scratch & Win tickets only occasionally and has won mostly small prizes of two bucks or twenty, the $50,000 jackpot has her excited to continue trying her luck next time.
