GST-Free School Shopping Returns in August

The Government of Belize has announced the return of GST-free shopping days for school supplies, giving families another opportunity to save ahead of the start of the new school year. This is the second consecutive year the tax relief program is being offered, but shoppers will notice a significant change. Last year, the exemption applied over two full weekends, Friday through Sunday, giving parents six days in total to purchase qualifying school supplies without paying the twelve-and-a-half percent General Sales Tax. This year, however, the relief has been reduced to just two Saturdays, August fifteenth and August twenty-ninth. The GST exemption will apply only to approved school-related items, including supplies and other educational materials and businesses participating in the program are expected to clearly identify qualifying products.
