A Punta Gorda woman thought she had won fifty dollars on a Scratch and Win ticket. Then she looked again and realized there were a few more zeros. The longtime player had bought four tickets at a neighborhood store when one of them turned into a fifty-thousand-dollar surprise. She has not yet decided what she will do with the money, but today she stopped by our office to share the excitement of a win she says still feels hard to believe.

“I bought the ticket yesterday, and I started scratching it. I bought four tickets. So I scratched one, and then I saw fifty dollars. I thought it was fifty dollars, so I put it aside and I scratched the other three. I won twenty dollars on the other ticket. So I came back to the same ticket, and I scratched and I saw some zeros. I’m like, “Wow, I won fifty thousand dollars.”

“And how did you feel the moment you realized?”

Winner

“I felt happy and excited, and I said, I can’t believe it.”

Britney Gordon

“Do you have anything specific you plan to use the money for?”

Winner

“Well, not at the moment. I have to focus and think what I’m gonna do with it.”

Britney Gordon

“And what was the reaction from your friends and family?”

Winner

“Well, not much of them know except for my son over there and my sister.”

Britney Gordon

“How long have you been buying Scratch and Win for?”

Winner

“I’ve been buying Scratch every so often, two dollars, one dollar.”

Britney Gordon

“And this is your first time winning something?”

Winner

“I’s win small, like two-dollar, twenty-dollar, twenty-dollar.’

Britney Gordon

“You think now that you’ve gotten big, fifty thousand, you keep on buying Scratch?”

Winner

“Of course, I will.”

The winner said she’s looking forward to discussing with family how the money can be best spent for their long-term benefit.
