BCCAR Restores Online Business Registry System Following Cybersecurity Incident

The Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry (BCCAR) restored the Online Business Registry System (OBRS) today, following a cybersecurity incident identified last week. 

Access to the platform was temporarily disabled while officials implemented additional security measures and completed system testing.

BCCAR confirmed that documents that have been marked in the OBRS with a solid warning icon were viewed and downloaded during the period of unauthorised access. BCCAR also states that there is no evidence that any marked document was altered or deleted and that their validity is not affected.

Investigations found no evidence that the registry’s database, servers, or administrative accounts were compromised. Identified suspect accounts have been disabled, and an external cybersecurity specialist is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

BCCAR introduced new security measures upon restoration, including a temporary limit of 100 document views or downloads per user per hour. The registry also temporarily disabled passport-based registration for limited public user accounts, which was identified as the vulnerability exploited to gain unauthorised access.

The system was initially taken offline at 1:45 p.m. on 5 August 2026 to prevent further unauthorised access. Users with marked documents or inquiries are advised to review the official incident updates online or contact BCCAR through its customer service hotline, WhatsApp, or email channels.
