Preparing Belizean Students for an Automated World

Robotics may still sound futuristic to many Belizeans, but for students at the University of Belize, that future is now sitting inside a classroom. The Ministry of E-Governance has handed over a VEX V5 Classroom Super Robotics Kit to UB’s Jaguar Tech Studio, giving students access to more than fifteen hundred parts they can use to build, program, test, and improve robotic systems. But this is not just about a box of high-tech equipment. It is about whether Belize is moving quickly enough to prepare young people for a world where automation, artificial intelligence, programming, and robotics are already changing the way people work. The ministry says the donation forms part of its wider push to strengthen digital skills under the National Digital Agenda, while also helping students move beyond theory and into hands-on innovation. The kit includes a robot brain, controller, smart motors, sensors, a rechargeable battery, and mechanical parts that allow students to turn ideas into working technology. And while UB is among the first to benefit, the ministry says additional robotics kits will be donated to other organizations and educational institutions across the country.
