Belize City Council Launches September Celebrations

September pride is now flying high across the Old Capital. The Belize City Council officially welcomed the celebration season today with its annual Flag Raising Ceremony at the flag monument roundabout. The national flags hoisted during the event will remain in place throughout the month, serving as a visible symbol of patriotism, celebration and civic pride. Deputy Mayor Eluide Miller delivered the keynote address.

“September naturally awakens something special within us. We display our flags. We wear our national colors. We celebrate our culture and proudly declare our love for Belize. But true civic pride must extend beyond what we wear, wave or what we say. Our love for Belize is most meaningful when we translate it into how we live, how we work and how we treat one another. This year’s theme declares, “Look at Me I am Belize @ 45”. That declaration challenges each of us to look honestly at ourselves, because if we are Belize then Belize will ultimately reflect the character, conduct and contribution of its people. You do not need to hold public office, lead a national organization or perform some extraordinary act to contribute meaningfully to our country. The great test is how we love Belize on an ordinary day, through our honesty, discipline, kindness and willingness to do what is right, even when no one is watching.”

 

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Look at Me, I am Belize @ 45”.
