“He’ll Forever Be in Our Hearts”: Family Mourns Deovan Hall

Forty-one-year-old Deovan Hall was found dead near a cane field in San Antonio Village, Corozal, after he was shot multiple times. ACP Hilberto Romero says police responded to reports of a shooting in the area.

“Information is that Hall was heading home on a bicycle after an event and he was approached by persons in the area who fired shots causing his fatal injuries. ” Romero said.

For Sharlean Robateau, Hall’s common-law partner, the last time she saw him alive was an ordinary moment that has since become painful to remember.

Hall had just passed her sister’s house after leaving a village event when he gave her their usual whistle, a way the couple used to let each other know they were nearby. Robateau went outside and asked where he was going.

“He say, I just gwen da back ya so fi some lee food,” Robateau recalled.

Hall continued on his way, while Robateau returned home with their children. About 15 minutes later, she says she heard what sounded like about five gunshots.

Later that night, Hall’s father came to Robateau’s door and asked whether he had returned home. When she told him he had not, they went looking for him.

Robateau remembers Hall as a father who spent much of his time with his children. She says he often took his sons fishing, hunting and to watch football.

“They know that he take his two boys everywhere with him,” she said. “Stick on to him like ticks.”

She says she cannot understand why anyone would want to kill him and wants justice for what happened. “I don’t think it fair to make them just take away a innocent life and leave two innocent kids fatherless,” she said.

Robateau wants Hall to be remembered as a loving and caring person who was always willing to help others.

“I would like him to remember as a loving person, caring person. He always willing to give a helping hand. And he’ll forever be in our hearts.”
