Corozal Gets New Technology for Schools and ITVET

Five primary schools in the Corozal District have received 100 recycled computers, while Corozal ITVET has received four virtual reality welding training systems.

Transparent BPO donated the computers, with each school receiving 20 desktops. The Ministry of Investment provided new hard drives, and each school is also receiving two laptops to support digital learning.

The beneficiaries are St. Paul’s Anglican, Church of Christ, Christiline Gill, Assemblies of God and Corozal Nazarene Primary Schools. The donation follows an IDB-funded assessment that identified a lack of basic IT equipment in schools as a challenge to hands-on digital learning.

Church of Christ Primary School Principal Jose Chan said the schools now have the tools, but teachers must ensure students gain the knowledge to use them. “We are getting the tools. Now it is time to pass on the knowledge,” Chan said.

At Corozal ITVET, four MIG welding virtual reality training systems were handed over through the Office of the Prime Minister and the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit.

Hiram Riverol, speaking on behalf of ITVET Chairman Froylan Gilharry, said Corozal ITVET is the first educational institution in Belize to receive the welding simulators. The systems will allow trainees to practise welding in a simulated environment before moving on to live welding.

Lincoln Blake, Director of the Investment Policy and Compliance Unit, said the equipment can help trainees build confidence and understand basic welding concepts while reducing the use and wear of welding equipment and materials.

Garcia-Ramirez said the welding systems will benefit 17 students, including eight new applicants and nine students from last year’s enrolment.

“We currently have eight new applicants to the course, in addition to nine students from last year’s enrollment, who will have the opportunity to gain practical experience with this technology,” she said.
