PM Briceño Teases Ambitious Ambergris-Mexico Bridge
Now, here’s something exciting, there’s talk of building a bridge that would link Ambergris Caye directly to Mexico. It’s a bold idea that could really change the way people move between the two countries. Of course, there are environmental concerns, especially given the sensitive nature of that area. But Prime Minister Briceño says those discussions are still in the early stages, so it’s far from a done deal.

“That bridge, we still have a long way to go, but the whole idea or the vision for the bridge is to be able to connect Ambergris Caye to Mexico and the Rivera Maya can be connected from San Pedro all the way to Cancun. And I know there is some environmental concerns that we have to consider and we certainly will consider. We are a very environmentally conscious government, so whatever we do has to be in consultation to ensure we protect. But all we want to do is build a bridge so that traffic can go through and all the way to Mexico and open up more trade opportunities and opportunities with tourism also.”
