Governor Abbott Sends Greetings for Belize’s 44th Independence
The Belize Association of Houston has received a distinguished letter of greetings from Texas Governor Greg Abbott in celebration of Belize’s 44th Independence Anniversary, marking a moment of pride and recognition for the Belizean diaspora in the Lone Star State.
Governor Abbott’s message commemorates Belize’s historic declaration of independence from the United Kingdom on September 21, 1981, and acknowledges the enduring relationship between Belize and the United States. “On September 21, 1981, the face of the world was forever changed when Belize declared independence,” Abbott wrote. “Through the years, Belize and the United States of America have forged a close relationship with a spirit and vision that unite our peoples.”
The governor also praised the contributions of Belizeans in Texas, noting their impact on the state’s cultural, economic, and social fabric. “Our strong national ties have carried over to Texas where Belizean communities have played a vital role in our state’s cultural, economic, and social landscape,” he stated. “As you gather to celebrate this milestone, I extend my appreciation for your invaluable contributions to the prosperity of Texas.”
The association is organising a series of cultural events, community gatherings, and heritage reflections leading up to September 21. These celebrations aim to strengthen community bonds and highlight the vibrant Belizean culture that enriches Houston’s diversity.
