Businessman Hospitalised Following Suspected Arson in San Pedro

Police are investigating a reported robbery and subsequent fire that occurred in the Boca del Rio area of San Pedro Town on Wednesday night at the Crown Game Shop.

According to police, the investigation began around 10:07 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a robbery along Laguna Drive. Upon arrival, 52-year-old Gerardo Reyes, a Belizean businessman, told police that an employee alerted him around 10:05 p.m. that smoke was coming from a game shop on the property. The shop is owned by Reyes and rented to 30-year-old Wen Huan Huang, a Chinese businessman.

Huang was seen exiting the building before collapsing. He was transported to a local clinic and later transferred to Belize City for further medical treatment.

Personnel from the Belize National Fire Service responded and extinguished the blaze
