Weekend Chopping Turns Deadly in San Juan

A sense of unease is settling over San Juan tonight after police detained a man they believe is tied to a brutal weekend chopping that left resident Elia Bejarano dead. Investigators say the same suspect also tried to rob a woman earlier that morning, an alarming pattern for someone who had only recently arrived in the community. Police are now digging deeper into who he is and what may have sparked the violence. ACP Romero shared more with us today.

“On Saturday police responded to a chopping incident in the San Juan Area. Upon their arrival they saw the lifeless body of a male person on the street. He was identified as Elias Bejerano. He was seen with several chop wounds to the body. Investigation is that Bejarano was going home from a bar in the area when he was attacked by a male person with a machete. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. We have one person in custody in connection with this incident. The information we got is that earlier the person attempted to rob a female in the area earlier likewise, so that is what we are looking at.”
