Fight Leads to BDF Soldier’s Death
Police are investigating the fatal stabbing of Belize Defence Force soldier Private Rasheed Flowers in Belize City on Monday night.
ACP Hilberto Romero, head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, said officers responded to a report on Gladden Street. “Information is that Flowers was at the yard… when there was a fight and a male person inflicted stab wounds to him,” he said.
“He was taken for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. We are looking for one suspect in regards to this stabbing incident,” Romero added. He confirmed alcohol may have been involved and said the suspect and victim were known to each other. “He received several stabs,” Romero noted, adding that police are checking the area for surveillance footage.
The Belize Defence Force described Flowers’s death as a sudden loss. Major Kevin Campbell, director of music for the BDF Band, said Flowers had served as a full‑time military musician since 2019. “He has served from that time right up until the time of his death as a full‑time military musician, ’cause you can have a career in military music now in Belize as a trombone player,” Campbell explained.
Campbell recalled Flowers’s talent and dedication. “He had the ability to look at the music, retain it… And up until the time of his death on the 9th of March, he was in uniform doing the Heroes and Benefactors parade,” Campbell said.
He conveyed condolences on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and BDF leadership. “We want to convey, use this platform to send our sympathies and, of course, our prayers… it’s a sudden loss,” Campbell said.
Flowers will be laid to rest with full military honours.
