Gun Bust on Holy Saturday in Caye Caulker

A Belize City man is facing firearm charges after police recovered a loaded pistol in his possession on Holy Saturday in Caye Caulker.

Assistant Superintendent of Police reported that 25-year-old Herman Ciego was arrested and charged for keeping a firearm and ammunition without a licence after police responded to a report at the corner of Avenida Mangle and Estrella Street just after 10:30 at night.

According to police, officers were responding to a disturbance when their attention was drawn to a man fleeing the scene. He was pursued and detained shortly after.

A search of the area where he ran led to the discovery of a nine-millimetre pistol loaded with ten live rounds.

Smith added that video footage forms part of the investigation, stating that it “shows Ciego engaging in conduct, which supports the arrest that was made.”
