$1.6M Drug Bust Raises Bigger Questions in Lord’s Bank
Wednesday’s massive drug bust in Lord’s Bank is raising new questions about crime in the area, as police investigate whether the $1.6 million bust is linked to recent murders nearby.
Police uncovered more than 1,100 pounds of marijuana inside a residential home, one of the largest seizures in Belize’s history. The discovery has left many with more questions than answers, including Attorney Audrey Matura.
Matura openly criticised how the operation was handled. In an online statement she said, “Why police move in prematurely? They should do surveillance of the place and when the person connected to the stash enters the premises, then make a move… Police you all light mein”
Village Chairman Daniel Salinas said the scale of the find came as a shock to residents, stating he was “quite surprised with the amount of drugs that was found in the village,” adding, “I didn’t expect those quantity of marijuana to be in the village.”
The location of the stash has deepened concerns. Police have previously indicated they were exploring possible links between multiple killings in the Ladyville and Lord’s Bank areas.
Despite fears, Salinas pointed to increased police presence and community efforts to maintain safety.
