Belizean Woman Convicted of U.S. Naturalization Fraud
A federal jury in Orlando, Florida has found forty six year old Belizean Ana Zahia Gonzalez guilty of naturalization fraud. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Gregory Kehoe, who confirmed that Gonzalez now faces up to ten years in federal prison, along with possible denaturalization as a U.S. citizen. Gonzalez was originally indicted on November nineteenth, 2025. According to testimony presented at trial, Gonzalez entered the United States on a visitor visa in 2006 and overstayed her authorized period of stay. Five years later, she married a U.S. citizen who was unaware that Gonzalez was still legally married to a Belizean man. In 2016, Gonzalez applied for naturalization and submitted a fraudulent divorce decree from Belize, falsely claiming her previous marriage had been legally dissolved. Federal prosecutors say this false information played a key role in her successful naturalization at the time. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Gonzalez is scheduled to be sentenced on July thirteenth.
