Trump Warns of “Bombing” Iran Likely if Talks Fail
The United States and Iran are on the brink of possible renewed conflict if a deal is not reached before Wednesday’s ceasefire deadline.
“I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with,” Trump said during an interview with CNBC, adding that US forces are “raring to go”.
Trump’s latest remarks come as Washington pushes for last-minute talks in Islamabad, though Iran has yet to confirm it will participate, according to CNN.
Reports indicate that JD Vance is expected to lead the US delegation alongside senior officials, while Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf is tipped to head Iran’s team. Tehran, however, insists no delegation has arrived.
Trump has also ruled out extending the truce, calling it “highly unlikely”, which has tightened pressure on negotiations that have yet to formally begin and currently remain uncertain.
Meanwhile, tensions on the ground continue to escalate. The Pentagon confirmed US forces boarded a sanctioned tanker in international waters, days after seizing an Iranian cargo vessel.
Iran has condemned the actions as piracy and warned of retaliation.
At the centre of the conflict is control of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route through which approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply is transported. Prices have fluctuated with an uptick in pricing over the past weeks since the conflict began.
While Washington frames the pressure as leverage, Tehran says it holds “new cards on the battlefield”. The stance has raised fears that diplomacy is becoming a prelude to war rather than a path to avoid it.
