Woman Remanded After Allegedly Attacking KHMH Nurse
Thirty-nine-year-old Dulce Portillo is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after failing to meet $2,000 bail for aggravated assault. She is accused of aggravated assault against Registered Nurse Viviana Lino during an incident on Monday night.
Allegations are that Dulce assaulted and attacked Lino with an IV pole inside the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City
Lino was alerted that a woman was slapping a patient in the surgical ward. When she intervened, Portillo allegedly became aggressive and turned on her. She reported to the police that Portillo pushed her, forced her onto a bed and attempted to climb on top of her before grabbing an IV pole and trying to strike her.
The situation escalated when Portillo allegedly chased the nurse with the IV pole after she fled the room. Security and police were called in.
Portillo was detained.
In court today, Portillo appeared unrepresented and attempted to speak but was stopped by Senior Magistrate Mannon Dennison to avoid self-incrimination.
She was granted bail of $2,000 with conditions, including no contact with the complainant.
Portillo was unable to meet bail and has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 10, 2026.
