70‑Year‑Old Farmer Murdered After Break‑In Near Santa Martha
Still in Orange Walk District, a routine check on a normally quiet farm spiraled into a chilling discovery Monday afternoon, relatives discovered that seventy year old farmer Francisco Perfecto Garcia had been brutally murdered. Police found Garcia hacked to death in thick bushes near his farm along Santa Martha Road, his face marked with multiple chop wounds. Investigators believe the killing followed an aggravated burglary. The discovery came just before three p.m. after relatives raised the alarm when Garcia couldn’t be reached all morning. His son went to the farm around 2:30 p.m. and found the back door open, the small cement house ransacked, and his father missing. Family members searched the area and found Garcia’s body a distance from the house, lying on his side and dressed only in underwear. Police say the home showed signs of forced entry, with broken glass louvers and items missing, including a cellphone, stove, gas tanks, and a wheelbarrow. Officers also recovered a blood stained machete from the yard. No arrests have been made. The investigation continues.
